SQUID CRO-MAGNON MAN

Slippery art-rockers Squid are hurtling towards the release of their third album Cowards, which lands this Friday the 7th via Warp Records. Giving listeners a final early preview, 'Cro-Magnon Man' is an eerie composition, which features additional backing  vocals by fellow talents Clarissa Connelly, Tony Njoku and Rosa Brook. Anchored by an evil bass line (blasted through synthesiser pedal, an octave and probably a load of other things), buggy guitars and electronics scurry across the mix as guitarist Louis Borlase leads the menacing vocal lines. As ever, drummer Ollie Judge's hi-octane beats keep the disparate elements aligned, before breaking away at the end to reveal a lush string arrangement and the intricacies of their make shift choir's voices, as they repeat the thought-provoking line 'I'll frame my life in the bones that I have left'.
